RecycleMania 2009
RecycleMania 09 is in full swing and there are some interesting milestones to point out. There are 510 colleges and universities participating this year, a 25% increase over 2008. More significantly, the list of schools represents for the first time all 50 of the United States. Pennsylvania again claims the top slot with 48 schools, followed by New York and California with 37 each. MISSOURI has 10 schools participating (see below). Also for the first time we are joined by schools outside the United States, including five universities in Canada and the Rajarambapu Institute of Technology in Islampur in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

MORA Recycling Market Advisory 11-15-08
Many of our members are feeling the effect of the drop in recycling commodity markets. This is especially true for the numerous small collection/processing facilities in rural communities. It's important to remember that the markets have always fluctuated - much like the stock market. Overseas demand drove markets to historic, unsustainable highs the past few years and a market correction was inevitable. One market that has remained strong is glass, according to Carrie Ray with Strategic Materials. While the market for other commodities is down, it is important to remember that it will eventually get better.
As you weather this storm...
- Don’t panic - be patient and store as much material as possible until markets recover
- Ensure that you have high quality product
- Look for new and innovative ways to streamline collection and processing
We all must ...
- Look for opportunities to create new domestic end markets – approach manufactures about using recycled materials in their process.
- And most of all – hang in there – stay the course.
The following document lists the recycling services available throughout the State of Missouri; it is maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
