Missouri Recycling Association (MORA)
Organizational History / Summary

Updated July 2009

MORA was formed when two regional recycling associations merged in 1993. The Ozarks Recycling Association (formed in Springfield, Mo.) and the Missouri State Recycling Association (formed in St. Louis, Mo.) decided to merge into one statewide organization devoted to waste reduction and recycling. MORA was the result of that merger.

Partners

Missouri’s 20 Solid Waste Management Districts, Dept. of Natural Resources – Solid Waste Management Program, EPA Region 7, and MORA members.

In 2009, MORA joined the Missouri Conservation and Environmental Alliance (MCEA). MCEA retains a lobbyist who provides weekly legislative reports, alerts us to relevant legislation, etc. Effective 2009 – MORA has a newly formed legislative committee that will be developing a legislative platform.

2009 MCEA Members Include: Audubon Missouri; Conservation Federation of Missouri; Green Building Council (St. Louis chapter); Missouri Coalition for the Environment; Missouri Park Association; Missouri Votes Conservation; Missouri Sierra Club; Missouri Recycling Association

National Recycling Coalition (NRC) – We have been an affiliate of the National Recycling Coalition for a number of years – paying an affiliation fee based on our membership #s. In 2008 our NRC membership dues were $6325. The future of NRC is uncertain as we wait for members to vote on the proposed NRC/KAB (Keep America Beautiful) merger in August 2009.
